Private George Cockburn

Private George Thomas Cockburn, 7th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed by shellfire in France on 11th May 1916 and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Loos, France. He was a native of Berwick and had enlisted at the Depot in the Town. At that time the Battalion were holding frontline trenches just south of the Hoenzolleren Redoubt near a position known as the ” Kink “. A German attack was made on this position and the Battalion trenches were deluged with shellfire and casualties were suffered.
