Private George Cockburn

Private George Thomas Cockburn, 7th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed by shellfire in France on 11th May 1916 and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Loos, France. He was a native of Berwick and had enlisted at the Depot in the Town. At that time the Battalion were holding frontline trenches just south of the Hoenzolleren Redoubt near a postion known as the ” Kink “. A German attack was made on this position and the Battalion trenches were deluged with shellfire and casualties were suffered.
