Lieutenant Charles Blythe

Lieutenant Charles Blythe, Royal Naval Reserve. He was lost at sea aboard H.M. Submarine “Syrtis” on 7th February 1944, aged 33. He was the son of Charles and Colina Blythe of Berwick and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. ” Syrtis ” was an S Class boat built by Cammell Laird and launched on 4th February 1943. She was lost with all hands on 28th March 1944 off the Norwegian coast, a mine being the probable cause. Lieutenant Blythe was lost overboard whilst the submarine was on patrol duty.
