Private Matthew Forester

Private Matthew William Forester, 1st Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 24th May 1918, aged 24, during the German Spring Offensives. He was the son of Matthew and Isabella Forester of Denwick Lane End, Alnwick and was a native of Bamburgh. He is buried in Cambrin Military Cemetery., Pas de Calais, France. The photographs show Allied troops in rather makeshift defences preparing to resist the German advances.
