Private William Muckle, 12th/13th ( Service ) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France, aged 38, on 21st March 1918 on the first day of the German Spring Offensive and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France. Before enlisting he had been a salmon fisherman on the River Tweed before becoming a cyclist on the rural postal service in the Norham area. He left a wife and four children.
