West Row 29 – 5 Taylor/Holland

In loving memory of GEORGE TAYLOR who died at Tweedmill 2nd November 1917 aged 59 years.

Also JANE HOLLAND his daughter who died at Winnipeg 4th March 1915 aged 31 years.

Also GEORGE his son killed in action 15th Sept 1916 aged 25 years.

Also JOHN his son who died while a prisoner of war at Parchim 2nd January 1919 aged 30 years.

Also ISABELLA TAYLOR his wife who died at Brockenhurst Hants 28th March 1952 aged 94 years.

Military record

Private John Taylor,  2nd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. He died in Germany on 2nd January 1919 aged 29. He was the son of George and Isabella Taylor of Coldstream and is buried in Hamburg Cemetery.

 

Private George Taylor ,( possibly ) 6th/7th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers.He was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme on 15th September 1916 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. He fell in the attack and capture of the heavily fortified village of Martinpuich. 6/7th Royal Scots Fusiliers were part of the 15th ( Scottish ) Division.

Commentary

George Taylor was born on 12 April 1859 in Inveresk, Midlothian. He married Isabella Colquhon Marr on 6 July 1877 in Prestonpans, East Lothian. They had ten children in 17 years. He died on 2 November 1915 in Tweedmill Coldstream Berwickshire at the age of 56.
