Erected by WILLIAM REID the Hirsel in memory of MARGARET BUSH his wife who died at Hirsel 26th September 1868 aged 48 years.

Also WILLIAM REID son of the above who died 5th October 1880 aged 24 years.

Commentary

William Reid was born at Newtown, Renfrewshire, occupation Game Keeper and he lived at 1 Spylaw House. His wife Margaret was born in England. Son George was born at Earlston. In 1861 they were recorded as having 5 children, George Reid 11, John Reid 9, James Reid 7, William Reid 5, Hannah Reid 1.
