In loving memory of MARGARET JANE CUSTHART dearly beloved wife of MARK BENSON who died
4 June 1932 aged 56 years. Also of the above MARK BENSON who was killed in action in
France 4 April 1917 aged 40 years.

Military record

Private Mark Benson, 5th Battalion Cameronians ( Scottish Rifles ). Killed in action during the Battle of Arras on 14th April 1917, aged 40. He was the son of the late John and Betsy Benson and the husband of Margaret Jane Gusthart Benson of 3 Grosvenor Crescent, Edinburgh. He is buried in Heniel-Croiselles Road Cemetery, Arras, France. The Battalion was part of the 33rd Division and captured the village of Heniel on 12th April before moving forward against the retreating Germans.
