in memory of captain JOHN RALPH CARR – ELLISON, of hedgeley, dunston hill and hebburn. eldest surviving son of RALPH CARR – ELLISON born at hedgeley 7th june 1832. gaztd to the 33rd (duke of wellington’s) regt April 1853. served throughout the crimean campaign, including the battles of Alma (through which he carried the regimental colour), Inkerman and the siege of Sevastopol medal with 3 clasps, turkish order of medjidie & sardinian medal served for 13 years with the 4th K.O.R. Regt. retired Nov. 1870. Justice of the peace for the cos of Northumberd & Durham. high sheriff for the former in 1888 died at Hedgeley 6th Feb. 1907.
