In loving memory of AGNES JOHNSTON  wife of JAMES TURNBULL PLAYFAIR  born at Coldstream XVII Nov MDCCCLVI died 11 Oct MDCCCCXVI  and buried in Lennel Churchyard

Commentary

In 1861 James was living with his parents David and Jane Playfair at 5 Store Close with his elder brother Murray born 1841 John born 1843 and younger brother David born 1850

In 1901 he was a Brewers Clerk and living at 12 the New road.

When James Turnbull Playfair was born in 1850 in England, his father, David, was 45 and his mother, Jane, was 42. He had four brothers and three sisters. He died on 6 February 1919 in Coldstream, Berwickshire, at the age of 69.

I think his father was a Miller first at Heaton near Tillmouth then a Miller here in Coldstream.

David Playfair was born in 1805 in Greenlaw, Berwickshire, the son of Helen and (Andrew). He married Jane Turnbull on 1 July 1832 in Hobkirk, Roxburghshire. They had eight children in 16 years. He died in 1879 in Coldstream, Berwickshire, at the age of 74, and was buried there.
