In 1831 Rachael Pit who lived in Duke St was the oldest woman in Scotland.

Coaching Inn’s in Coldstream were of no great standard there was no facility to look after or feed the horses.  That is rather unusual when you think that before the bridge the ford at Coldstream was the first of any consequence on the river.  The nearest coaching inn was at Cornhill the Beehive.  Also of course, the Collingwood arms that opened latter.

COLDSTREAM  WORTHIES

Mr William Brydon.  Berwickshire News 6th October 1923.Death on Thursday one of the oldest inhabitants of the burgh Mr William Brydon who was 83 years of age.  He was for some 36 years shepherd 20 of witch he spent at Shidlaw.  He then came to Coldstream where he spent 30 years as a Butcher.  A business now carried on by his son’s.  Mr Brydon had 7 of a family 6 of who are still surviving.  The funeral took place on Sunday past in the afternoon.

 

September 15th 1914 Berwickshire officer killed Lieut.  John Bloomfield Gough (Royal Horse Artillery) born 24th August 1896 (Three of his relatives received the VC

 

September 29th 1914 On Saturday 19th a shooting party assembled at Lennel (Captain Warrings) when news came of his brother in law Lord Arthur Hay killed in action.  It was decided the shoot would go on as the birds were for the Newcastle Hospital.  Over one hundred brace of Partridge were sent.
