The Society was delighted to host an 80 year old, but extremely fit, American gentleman from Bay St. Louis, in the American State of Mississippi. This took place two weeks ago when Charles Gray visited Coldstream and stayed at the East Braes B&B. Charles can trace his heritage back to the famous Greys of this area (Milfield Hill, Chillingham Castle etc) and to the British Prime Minister. He was found to have an enormous amount of knowledge on the Greys, and Grays, as the surname has changed over the years. Charles was dined at Susan and Gerald Tait's the first evening, and the next day Eleanor Moffat and Joan Turnbull largely showed Charles round the area and at night he dined in the Besom Inn with the three ladies mentioned previously. On the next day, Charles visited both Chillingham and Bamburgh Castles and on the morning of the next day travelled south to meet friends. We expect he is back home now. But what a remarkable man Charles is, so full of energy and good manners, and the Society wishes him all the best in his pursuit of the Grey heritage and history, a very worthy initiative.
