Latest News on Possible Restoration of Old Lennel Kirk

Historic Scotland is sending representatives to meet Community Trust officials at  Lennel kirkyard on Friday 23rd January. These include a grants expert, a scheduled and ancient monuments expert and case officer. HS seem interested in repairing and restoring to some semblance of order the old lennel kirk, built in 1120 and last used in 1705, and changing it to an Ancient Monument; it's currently a Listed B building. Let's hope HS can advise on the restoration strategy and funding. The end result would be a tidier site and better interpreted in terms of its historical importance and the number of headstones of eminent people within, or surrounding, the kirk. Let's keep the fingers crossed.
