Private William Elliot

Private William D.Elliot, 1st/4th ( Border) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Palestine on 19th April 1917 during the Third Battle of Gaza and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial, Jerusalem, Israel. The Battalion was ordered to take Turkish positions at ” Outpost Hill”. Th attack succeded but due to heavy casualties and a shortage of ammunition a retirement to previously won positions was necessary. Casualties were 9 Officers and 44 Other Ranks killed and 6 Officers and 152 Other Ranks wounded.
