Served as the terminus of the line for 2 years until conection to Kelso (NBR) was completed in 1851. The end on junction with the NBR was 1 mile west of Sprouston, 1.75 miles east of Kelso. As the NER's last station on the line Sprouston had a single track engine shed from which the Kelso - Tweedmouth services operated. The shed was apparently rebuilt in 1882 after being damaged by a gale. Although, closed in 1916 the shed was used during World War II to house GWR City of Truro, evacuated from the York Railway Museum
