In loving memory of Andrew HUNTER who died at Milfield Jan 23rd !929 aged 73 years.
And of Rachel his wife who died Nov. 4th 1932 aged 76 years.
Also rifleman Robert How HUNTER 21st Kings Royal Rifle Corp. eldest son of the above killed in action on the Somme. Sept. 15th !916 aged 27 years.
Also 2nd Lieutenant Norman Archbold HUNTER 7th Northumberland Fusiliers youngest son of the above killed in action near St. Quentin. Sept. 3rd 1917 aged 22 years.
Military record
Rifleman Robert How Hunter, M.A., 21st Battalion, Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He was killed in action in France on 17th September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, Somme, France. He had been educated at Berwick Grammar School and was then a student of arts at Edinburgh University graduating M.A.in 1908. He enlisted in January 1916 and was aged 27 when he fell.
Second Lieutenant Norman Archbold Hunter, 26th ( Service ) Battalion, (Tyneside Irish), Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 3rd September 1917 during the Third Battle of Ypres, aged 22. He was the son of Andrew and Rache Hunter of Milfield, Wooler and is buried in Hargicourt British Cemetery. He and Second Lieutenant H.P.Dixon fell in the attack on Triangle Trench . 7 Other Ranks were also killed and 9 were wounded.
