Private Alexander Hunter

Private Alexander Hunter, 16th Battalion, ( Canadian Scottish ) Canadian Infantry. He was killed in France, aged 21, on the 14th March 1915. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of Maggie Hunter of Jedburgh.  He had emigrated to Canada in June 1911 where he worked as a railroad  cableman in British Columbia. He was also a member of the local Militia . the 72 Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. In August 1914 volunteers were enlisted for overseas service and the 16th Battalion landed in France in February 1915. He is buried in Rue-Petillon Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France. At the time of his death the Battalion were in reserve but were shelled with some casualties.
