Private Robert Davidson

Private Robert Davidson, 2nd Battalion ( Royal Fusiliers ) London Regiment. He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 19, on the 26th October 1917 during the Third Battle of Ypres. He had been born in Swinton, Berwickshire in 1898 and was the son of George and Mary Davidson of Rigfoot Farm, Longformacus. Before enlisting in April 1917 he had been employed as a mechanic at Luke’s Motor Garage, Duns and he is buried in Cement House Cemetery, Flanders, Belgium. The photos show troops during the Battle and the atrocious ground conditions in Flanders where the incessant shelling had destroyed the fragile drainage systems.
