Private Peter Alexander Gilchrist, 7th/8th ( Service ) Battalion ,Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died at home of wounds received during the War on 29th July 1919, aged 22. He had been born at Felkington, Berwick-upon-Tweed and was the son of Thomas and Agnes Gilchrist of Greenfield, Foulden and Seafield House, Spittal, Berwick upon Tweed and is buried in Foulden Kirkyard, Foulden, Berwickshire. He had been employed as a stoker at Berwick gas works before enlisting in February 1916 and jointhe the 2nd Battalion in France in July 1916. Two days later he was wounded and after treatment in the 11th Stationary Hospital in Rouen he was evacuated to hospital in Belfast. He returnerd to France in April 1917 and was wounded again. In April 1918 he was wounded for a third time and had to have part of his lower arm amputated. He was also diagnosed with T.B. and was discharged from the Army in February 1919. His family had moved from Foulden to Mordington Mains and he died there.
