Private Robert Johnston, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). He died in France from wounds on 15th March 1916, aged 24, and is buried in Bethune Town Cemetery in France. He was the only son of James and Isabella Johnston, Overshiels, Stow and Balvelachan, Callander, Perthshire. Before enlisting in June 1915 he had been employed as an assistant shepherd at Overshiels farm. He belonged to the third generation of the name who had been shepherds there.
