Gunner Robert Scott Turnbull, 240 Battery, 77th Heavy Anti Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery. He died on Service, aged 22, on the 4th December 1942 whilst a Prisoner of War. He had been born in Selkirk in 1921 and was the son of Adam and Margaret Turnbull of Clifton Road, Selkirk. His Regiment arrived in Singapore in January 1942 but when Singapore fell they were moved to Java but fell into Japanese hands when that Island was overrun in March 1942. As a P.O.W. he was moved to Japan and died from disease in the Moji Branch of the main camp at Fukuoka. He is commemorated on the Yokohama Cremation Memorial, Japan.
