Private Charles Scott

Private Charles Scott, 43rd ( Manitoba ) Regiment, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 22, on the 26th October 1917 during the Third Battle of Ypres. He was the son of John and Mary Scott of Falnash Cottage, Teviothead, Hawick and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. The photographs show the atrocious state of the battlefield where the incessant shelling had destroyed the fragile Flanders drainage systems.
