Flying Officer Albert Barton

Flying Officer Albert Hamilton Barton, Royal Airforce Volunteer Reserve. He was lost on Operations over France with 620 Squadron R.A.F. on 6th June 1944 and is buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France. His Squadron was designated as a Transport and Glider Towing Unit and on that day, D-Day, they were towing troop Gliders for the invasion of France ( Operation Overlord ). At that time the Squadron flew the Short Stirling IV from R.A.F.Fairford. They had been used in the heavy bomber role until superceded by the Avro Lancaster and Handley Page Halifax.
