Lance Corporal John Galbraith, 50th ( Calgary ) Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action in France on 10 April 1917, aged 31, during the capture of Vimy Ridge. He was the son of George and Janet Galbraith of Rutherford Burnside, Maxton and is buried in Givenchy-En-Gohelle Canadian Cemetery Souchez, France. He had emigrated to Canada in 1909 and was working as a teamster in Calgary when he enlisted in July 1915. He was trained as a Lewis gunner and was promoted in February 1917.The photograph shows Lewis gunners in action.
