Gunner John McCraith, “D” Battery, 78th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. He died from wounds in France on 6th September 1918 suffered during the ” Advance to Victory ” and is buried in Le Bucquiere Communal Cemetery Extension. He had been born in Bowsden, Northumberland. The standard field gun was the 18 pounder often used in an anti infantry role using high explosive and shrapnel shells an example of which is shown below.
