Private John Cunningham

Private John Cunningham, 2nd Battalion ,Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France ,aged 19, on the 23rd April 1917 during the Battle of Arras. He had been born in Duns and had been brought up by his grandparents Susan and David Aitchison of New Ladykirk and Eddington Mains, Chirnside. Before enlisting in 1916 he had been employed as a ploughman at New Ladykirk farm. He is buried in Bootham Cemetery, Heninel, Arras, France.
