Trooper William Robson Laing, 1st/1st Lothians and Border Horse. He died on Service at Salonika, aged 27, on the 13th October 1918. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of George and Helen Laing of 16 Canongate, Jedburgh. before enlisting in July 1915 he had been employed as a constable in the Leith Police Force. He went to Salonika in 1916 and died from pneumonia in the 67th General Hospital at Kalamaria, Greece only two weeks after the Armistice was signed with Bulgaria. He is buried in Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria, Greece where his Headstone is inscribed ” Thy Will Be Done”.
