Sergeant Peter Robson

Sergeant Peter Sprott Robson, “D” Coy., 2nd Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He died from wounds in France, aged 30, on the 19th November 1917. He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of Archibald and the late Mary Robson of Dysart, Fife and Bonjedward, Jedburgh and the husband of  Jean Robson of Monteviot, Jedburgh. He had enlisted as a Regular Soldier, aged 16, in the 2nd Seaforths in 1906 and served in Ireland and India. He was transferred to the Reserve in 1911 and worked in Kirkcaldy in his father’s business. He also played rugby for Jed Forest R.F.C. On the outbreak of War he was recalled to the colours and took part in many engagements thereafter being wounded at Ypres in 1915. He was fatally wounded by a sniper and is buried in Diusans British Cemetery, Etrun, France where his Headstone is inscribed ” Lead Kindly Light Until The Dawn”.
