Private Robert Ormiston, 6th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed by a sniper in France, aged 22, on the 4th August 1915 and is buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L’Avoue, France. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of the late Janet and Charles Ormiston of Galashiels. Before enlisting in 1914 he had been employed by Messrs James Boyd & Son of Jedburgh. He had landed with the Battalion in France in May 1915. At that time the Battalion were in trenches on the La Bassee canal and suffered some casualties from shelling and sniping.
