Private William Neil, 2nd/4th ( Reserve ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died on Service at Home on 22nd June 1916, aged 29, and is buried in Comely Bank Cemetery, Edinburgh. The 2nd/4th Battalion was the reserve for the 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, K.O.S.B. He had been born in Gordon in 1887 and was the son of the late Georgina and Alexander Neill. Before enlisting in late 1914 he had been employed as a ploughman at Hume Byres but became ill and was transferred to the 2nd Scottish General Hospital, Craigleith, Edinburgh where he died of pneumonia.
