Private William Jenkinson

Private William Jenkinson, 9th ( Service ) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He died of wounds  at Home on 22nd August 1918, aged 23, suffered  during the ” Advance to Victory “. He had been born in Fogo, Berwickshire and was the son of Isabella Jenkinson of High Street, Greenlaw and the late Thomas Jenkinson of Hume. Before enlisting in October 1914 he had been employed at Todrig farm. He died in Queen Mary’s Military Hospital, Clitheroe, Lancashire and is buried in Greenlaw Parish Churchyard.  The photographs show Allied troops advancing after the retreating German Army during the final 100 days of the War. The Battalion was part of the 9th ( Scottish ) Division.
