Lance Corporal George Fair, 15th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in action in France on 28th April 1917 during the Battle of Arras and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France. He had been born in Grantshouse and had enlisted in Dalkeith. He fell in a disastrous attack on Roeux Wood where in the face of intense machine gun fire and deep wire entanglements the Battalion were unable to make much headway and suffered 300 casualties with 6 Officers and 200 Other Ranks killed.
