Private John Crosby

Private John Henry Crosby, 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in action in Italy on the 21st September 1944 aged 20. He had been born in Westruther and was the son of Alfred and Isabella M. Crosby of Earlston, Berwickshire. He is buried in Florence War Cemetery, Italy where his Headstone is inscribed ” Until the Day Break And The Shadows Flee Away, We Will Remember You “. He had originally enlisted in the K.O.S.B but had been transferred to the Royal Scots. His Battalion was the “New” reconstituted 2nd Battalion as the ” Old ” 2nd Battalion had been lost at the capture of Hong Kong by the Japanese in December 1941. He fell in the advance to the village of Pallazuola where on the 21st September the Battalion led by ” B” Coy. advanced some 4 miles to attack Monte Prevaligo. Some casualties were suffered.
