Private Alexander Knox, 11th Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in action in France, aged 37, on the 27th September 1915 during the Battle of Loos. He had been born in Bathgate and was the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Knox of 66 Lintburn Street, Galashiels. He had been working as a tailor in Galashiels when he enlisted landing in France with his Battalion in May 1915. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Loos, France. He fell in the fierce fighting in and around “Fosse 8” where casualties in the Battle were severe with 11 Officers and 370 Other Ranks were killed wounded or missing.
