Private Albert Johnstone, D.C.M.

Private Albert Edward Johnstone, D.C.M., ” H ” Coy., 1st Battalion, Cameronians. He was killed in action in France, aged 26, on the 28th June 1916 and is buried in Gorre British and Indian Cemetery, Pas de Calais France. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of Robert Baxter and Georgina Grainger of 8 Queen Street, Galashiels and the husband of Jane Johnstone of 32 Scott Street, Galashiels. He had enlisted in the K.O.S.B. in 1903 as a boy soldier and later transferred to the Cameronians landing in France in August 1914. ( There is no Record in the Official list of Citations that he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal ).
