Private Thomas Adamson

Private Thomas Barnes Adamson, 5th Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in action in France, aged 19, on the 16th July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. He had been born in Melrose and was the son of John and Margaret Adamson of 26 Sime Place, Galashiels. He had been employed as a butcher in Galashiels when he enlisted in May 1915, landing in France in October 1915. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. The photos show Scottish troops on the Somme and the colour image shows a peaceful Somme landscape today with ” no guns no barbed wire, no guns firing now”.  ( His brother George also fell – see below ).
