Second Hand ( Mate ) George Craig

Second Hand ( Mate ) George Craig, Royal Naval Reserve.He was lost at sea aboard H.M. Drifter “Clover Bank” on 15th February 1918, aged 50. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of George and the late Christina Craig and the husband of Jane Craig of 2 Spiers Place, Eyemouth and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. The Drifter was a former Aberdeen trawler of 92 tons and had been on the Dover Patrol, serving as a net layer when she was overwhelmed by a German Destroyer raid and sunk with the loss of 8 men. There was 1 survivor. Her skipper was Richard Crater R.N.R. The ” Christina Craig ” was lost in the same action.
