Private Robert Thompson Wastle, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He was born in Tweedmouth in 1880 and died in Westbourne, Manitoba in 1920 aged 40. Before the family emigrated to Canada in 1889 his father had had an extensive shoemaking business in Tweedmouth. He had enlisted in Canada in May 1915 and joined the C.L.I. before being sent to France. In October 1917 he went on leave and visited family friends in Berwick who ran the Free Trade Inn in Castlegate.
