Erected by ROBERT CARMICHAEL Rosybank Coldstream in loving memory of his sons ARCHIBALD 2nd Lieut. R.F.A. who died of his wounds 22nd May 1918 aged 26 years. Buried at Vignacourt France

And GEORGE GORDON Lieut. K.O.S.B. who fell in the attack on Beugneux 1st August 1918 aged 22 years.

Military record

Robert Carmichael was the Provost of Coldstream between 1912 and 1934. He was the proprietor of Robert Carmichael and Sons and had followed in his father’s footsteps (also Robert) in the family business. The business was started by Robert senior in 1832. George Gordon is still missing. Commemorated at the Raperie British Cemetery in Villemontoire, he was in the 1/5 KOSB. Robert Carmichael also had four daughters.
