Private John Cowe

Private John Cowe, 7th ( Service ) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed in action in France, aged 24, on the 2nd May 1917 during the Battle of Arras. He had been born in Hutton, Berwickshire and was the son of John and Janet Cowe of Hutton and Springwells, Eccles. He had enlisted in October 1914 and went to France in August 1915 with the 8th Seaforths.  He was wounded and on recovery was posted to the 7th Battalion. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France. The photos were taken during the Battle.
