Private Harry James Murray, Royal Army Ordnance Corps. He died on Active Service, aged 35, in India on the 22nd October 1944. He had been born in Selkirk in 1910 and was the son of Provost John Murray and Helen Murray of “Glan-Coed”, Selkirk and the husband of Jessie Murray of 41 Shawburn Place, Selkirk. He had been a grocer and sub-postmaster at Raeburn Meadow, Selkirk and a member of the Home Guard before enlisting. He served in West Africa before being posted to India where he was killed in an accident. He is buried in Chittagong War Cemetery, Bangladesh where his Headstone is inscribed ” His Life A Golden Memory His Absence A Silent Grief”.
