Private Prideaux Selby

Private Prideaux .J. Selby, 8th( Service ) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He died on active service on 3rd October 1915, aged 25. He was the son of Beauchamp Prideaux Selby of Pawston, Northumberland and the brother of Captain Selby above. He is buried in Gibraltar ( North East ) Cemetery, Gibraltar. This cemetery was used for those soldiers and sailors who had died on passing ships. At this time the Battalion was engaged at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli and it is possible Private Selby had been wounded and was returning home for treatment. The photograph shows Suvla Bay looking North from the Australian positions at Anzac Cove.
