Private Thomas Fergie

Private Thomas Fergie, 4th ( Reserve ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died on Service in hospital on the 10th July 1918, aged 20. He had been born in Paxton and was the son of Thomas and Janet Fergie of Paxton.  He had enlisted in Berwick-upon-Tweed and is buried in Hutton New Burial Ground, Hutton, Berwickshire. He was in his third week of training in Fife when he fell ill and died in the West of Fife Infectious Diseases Hospital, Dunfermline. ( at that time the “Spanish Flu” epidemic was sweeping the World. It eventually caused many more fatalities than the War).
