Sergeant Donald Wilson

Sergeant Donald John Ross Wilson, Royal Air Force. He was a Regular airman and was lost on an Air Operation with 8 Squadron, R.A.F. on 5th August 1940 aged 24. He was the son of Alexander and Robertina Wilson of Yarrowfeus, Yarrow, Selkirkshire and is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial, Alamein, Egypt. The Squadron had been based at R.A.F. Khormaksar in Aden since 1927 and by 1939 were flying the Bristol Blenheim light bomber. On August 5th 1940 the Italians invaded British Somaliland and the Squadron flew missions attacking the Italian troop columns. On that day Sergeant Wilson’s aircraft collided with another Blenheim and both aircraft crashed into the sea with all 6 crew lost.
