Private James Graham

Private James J.Graham, 11th Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in action in France on 14th July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, Somme, France. He fell in the night attack on the strong German positions in the village of Longueval.Some success was achieved but concealed machine guns and very heavy artillery shelling caused many casualties. The Battalion was finally withdrawn into reserve on 17th July having sustained 6 Officers killed and six wounded whilst there were 308 Other Rank casualties.
