Chief Engineer Officer Harry Williamson

Chief Engineer Officer Harry Williamson, Merchant Navy. He was lost at sea aboard the S.S. “Grelhead” ( London ) on 2nd December 1941, aged 51. He is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial, London. The” Grelhead “was unescorted and carrying iron ore when she was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of Morocco by U-562 with only 2 survivors from the crew of 43. The ship, of 4274 tons, had been built by Richardson, Duck &Co. of Stockton on Tees and was launched in 1915.  U-562 was sunk herself in the Mediterranean on 19th February 1943, with the loss of all hands, by H.M.S “Isis”.
