Private Edward Allan, 8th ( Service ) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He died at Gallipoli on 15th October 1915 of wounds received action, aged 18. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Allan of Bender Crossing, Wooler and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Helles, Gallipoli, Turkey. Before the War he had worked for Mr Waters of Coldgate Mill and had enlisted into the 15th Battalion N.F. before transferring into the 8th Battalion for service in the Dardanelles. The Battalion was part of 34th Brigade of the 11th ( Northern ) Division which had been landed at Suvla Bay on 6th/7th August in an attempt to flank the Turkish forces defending the Peninsula.
