Lance Corporal Thomas Boyd Lough, 1st Battalion, Royal Scots. He was the brother of Robert Lough above and was killed in action in India on 28th May 1944, aged 24. He had been born in Whitsome and was the son of Richard and Isabella Lough of Whitsome. He fell in the hard fought Battle of Kohima where the Japanese invaders of India were halted and defeated. He is buried in Kohima War Cemetery, India. His Headstone is inscribed ” I Say As I Look Back Earthward Whatever Is, Is Best”. He had been a Territorial with the 4th K.O.S.B. and was employed as a baker before being mobilised. The Battalion went to India in June 1942 and had already served in Burma. before playing a major role in the defence of Kohima. The photos were taken during and after the Battle.
