Private Abram Gibson

Private Abram Gibson, 5th Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 23rd March 1918 during the German Spring Offensive, aged 31 and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial. Pozieres, Somme, France. ( Apparently he was not keen on the name Abram and when he enlisted he used the name Frank and this is the name to be found on the C.W.G.C. site ). He was born in Whitsome in 1887 to George and Margaret Gibson. His father George was a Master Baker. Abram resided in Galashiels and it was here that he enlisted. The photograph shows a Cameron patrol in the ruins of a village awaiting developments.
