Able Seaman Joseph Wood

Able Seaman Joseph Wood, Royal Navy. He died aboard HMS. “Surprise” on 23rd December 1917 and is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial. ( He is also commemorated on the Coldingham War Memorial ) H.M.S. “Surprise” was an “M” Class Destroyer lost in a German minefield on 23rd December 1917, near the Maas Light Vessel off Rotterdam, Holland. The ship was only launched in 1916.
