Private Thomas Brunton, 14th ( Service ) Battalion ,Highland Light Infantry.( attached from 4th Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borderers ). He was killed in action on 28th November 1917 during the Battle of Cambrai. He was the son of Isabella Brunton of Harehead, Selkirk and is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial Cambrai, France. This battle saw the first use of the massed tank attack ( 437 ) on good ground to breach German lines and initially was very successful. The first photograph shows some of the tanks ready to commence the attack and the second shows one of the tanks in close up.
